Phase Stability of Martensitic Structures
نویسنده
چکیده
In the first part of the paper the relative stabilities of the different martensitic phases, mainly in Cu-Zn-Al, are compared. It is shown that the differences in enthalpy of formation between the fcc type 3R or 6R and the 9R, 18R or 2H structures are above all due to a lattice distortion which reduces the energy per stacking fault, considering 9R, I8R and 2H as a basic face centered lattice into which faults are introduced on each third or second plane. In the second part the factors are discussed which are important in the relative stabilities not only between the matrix and martensite phases, but also for the equilibrium phases in the noble metal alloys. These are: i) the vibrational entropy difference AS, which is a function mainly of electron concentration ela. It depends little, if at all, on the special alloy system, on the degree of long range order, or on temperature; ii) the stability of the average periodic lattice which is a smooth function of ela, without any indication of nesting effects at intermediate ela; iii) the pair interchange energies which depend strongly on the alloy system. They are a function of the pair distance but otherwise are structure independent. They determine most of the enthalpy of formation and simnltaneously account for the long range order contribution.

Effect of Amorphous Silica Addition on Martensitic Phase Transformation of Zirconia and Investigation of its Tetragonal Structure Stability Mechanisms
This work is focused on the effect of amorphous SiO2 addition on the phase transformation and microstructural evolution of ZrO2 particles. Considering the structural similarities between the amorphous ZrO2 and its tetragonal structure, XRD results showed initial nucleation of metastable tetragonal ZrO2 from its amorphous matrix upon heat treatment. This metastable phase is unstable in pure ZrO2...

A finite element approximation of the thin film limit for a sharp interface bulk energy for martensitic crystals is given. The energy density models the softening of the elastic modulus controlling the low-energy path from the cubic to the tetragonal lattice, the loss of stability of the tetragonal phase at high temperatures and the loss of stability of the cubic phase at low temperatures, and ...

This research focuses on the stability of three metastableβ titanium alloys – Ti-10V-1Fe-3Al (T i −1013), Ti-10V-2Cr-3Al (T i −102Cr 3) and Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al-B (T i −1023B). In the first stage of the work, new β+ (α+β) heat treatment schemes were designed on the basis of Thermo-Calc® simulations and previous research work and carried out to such an extent that the β phase stability is tuned to the...

In the present study, the effect of time and base metal microstructure on the Transient Liquid Phase (TLP) bonding of 304L stainless steel was studied. TLP was performed at 1050 0C for 5 and 60 minutes on the coarse grain austenitic and martensitic microstructure using BNi-2 interlayer. To prepare martensitic microstructure, as-received 304L was rolled at -15 0C up to 80% rolling reduction. TEM...
